At the beginning of the eighteenth century, the technique and style of interpretation of Italian female opera singers improved considerably. In Italy, the population of female singers had progressively increased due to the demands of the market and to the opera seria’s dependence of high voices. At the same time, the most powerful European courts began to engage the best specialists of opera with the purpose of making their own productions. As a consequence, Italian artists began to emigrate throughout the continent. Female singers strongly participated in this process, contributing to the diffusion and promotion of the Italian style and vocal technique, becoming the model for all European nations.
